The Nikon AF NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4D IF is the classic Nikon portrait prime, long known among photographers for the quality of its out-of-focus rendering. The f/1.4 maximum aperture separates the subject from the background with a very shallow plane of focus, the nine-blade rounded diaphragm keeps highlight discs circular when stopped down, and the internal focus system moves only the internal groups, keeping the barrel length constant. On full frame the 85 mm focal length gives natural facial proportions at a comfortable working distance, without the compression of a longer telephoto.
