Description

The Tiffen Pro-Mist 1/2 in the 4 x 5.65 cine format is the classic highlight diffusion filter, blooming bright sources outward into a soft halo and lowering overall contrast in a way that reads as film rather than as a digital effect. At 1/2 strength the effect is clearly visible on practicals, windows and specular highlights while dialogue coverage still holds detail. Applying it in camera rather than in post is a deliberate choice: the bloom interacts with the real light in the scene and cannot be reproduced convincingly afterwards. The 4 x 5.65 format fits professional matte boxes. Used for narrative, period work and music video.
